Cigarette Package Health Warnings and Birth Related Outcomes:
Evidence from Mexico

Starting in 2010, tobacco companies in Mexico were mandated to show different messages related to the risks of smoking during specific periods of time, where some of these were related to the risks of smoking during pregnancy. This paper studies the effect of pictograms on cigarettes packs and their effect on birth weight in Mexico. My identification strategy relies on measuring the effect of exposure based on the exact dates that pictograms are released and the exact birth dates from vital statistics administrative records.
